The School has an active group of academic staff contributing to research and teaching in the fields of physical and human geography (political ecology, economic, natural resource management, urban/rural, migration, conflict), and seeks an individual who will help in strengthening its activities in Human Geography. The incumbent will be tasked with undergraduate teaching in their field of expertise and related fields within Human Geography, in particular Urban Geography, at all levels using curricula in keeping with modern developments in that field, and will assist in developing discipline-wide postgraduate teaching programmes across the School. In addition to teaching, s/he will be expected to develop and maintain an active research programme that will involve supervision of postgraduate students and attract external funding. S/he will also be expected to be involved in the School administration and outreach activities.
This incumbent will report to: The Academic Leader (Geography).
Minimum Requirements:
Professor
 A PhD in Human Geography with a special focus on the sub-disciplines mentioned above.
 Excellent experience in teaching at a university level
 A current and sustained research publication record in peer-reviewed ISI/DoHET accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, book chapters and books appropriate for this level
 Very good record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at MSc and PhD levels
 Evidence of attracting external research funds, with evidence of national and/or international collaboration
 Evidence of strong academic leadership
Associate Professor
 A PhD in an appropriate Geography sub-discipline
 Very good experience in undergraduate teaching at a university level
 A current and sustained research publication record in peer-reviewed ISI/DoHET accredited journals, and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, book chapters and books appropriate for this level
 Excellent record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at MSc and PhD levels
 Demonstrated ability to attract external research funds
