Big publishing companies are also gearing up for Plan S, by stopping hybrid journals [paywalled but also open access articles allowed for a fee] and developing OA alternatives -thus making journals, and possibly Geoforum, open access. This may seem good but unfortunately the APCs for authors will be higher than most social scientists could afford on a regular basis. A lot of us wanted PlanS to limit APCs to a reasonable level. If it is fully implemented it will shift a lot of our work to OA, but with a net shift of costs from libraries to authors, I suspect.
